Dear Pangeans,
Fall is here–no tricks, just treats! After many delays due to all the Omicron nightmare and many lessons learned with our first jacket, we’re happy to announce that your jackets will be ready in Octoberfor certain.
Manufacturing Update–Ladies First!
We are finishing the women’s jackets ahead of our last updated schedule, followed by the men’s jackets 7-10 days later. The factory has finished cutting the fabric and will start stitching soon. We are pushing the factory to finish production on schedule so you will receive the jacket on time in October!
With this news, see below the updated timeline:
Impact Update
Indonesia is entering the wet season soon! We are anticipating heavy monsoon rains in the next 6 months and what comes along with it–trash from upstream.
You can look at the barriers’ performance on our live dashboard here!
Our river heroes have been working tirelessly to collect trash from the river barriers in Padang, Indonesia. Since our last update on August 16, we have stopped 10,477.9 lbs (4,752.7 kg) more of trash from entering the ocean from three of the 1,000 world’s dirtiest rivers. Powered by you!
Here are some photos with the best catches of the month!
On August 31, Barrier #2 (left picture) stopped 138.2 lbs (62.7 kg) of trash. And, on September 14, Barrier #7 (right picture), our river heroes collected 132.7 lbs (60.2 kg) of trash. All recyclable trash is transported to a waste bank that will clean, sort, and recycle them properly.
YOUR BABY MANGROVE TREES ARE GROWING!
We promised you to plant new mangrove trees–which we did on July 25! We planted a total of 704 mangrove trees from the eco-jacket project and you can see them growing in the photo below.
On this island, the mangroves live up to 50-70 years, which is 2x the average mortality rate of 25 years.
We planted them 2 months ago. So far, only two out of the 704 mangroves we planted weren’t able to survive in the wild, but the rest are thriving and adapting to the environment very well!
Your baby mangroves should grow like the trees in the background in 12 years!
There is nothing that can express our gratitude more than delivering a greater positive impact and creating more sustainable products for you! Let’s keep taking more action to clean the planet and the ocean together.
With love,
The PANGEA Team

Dear Pangeans,
Hoping your August is agreeing with you as it is with us! There has been a lot of enthusiasm going around us and we want to share this with you!
New mangrove trees planted by your jackets! As much as 1,437 lbs (651.9 kg) of CO2 will be captured per year.
We made the promise to plant mangrove trees in July, and we did. We planted a total of 879 mangrove trees to capture the remaining CO2 commitment from our bamboo towels, the eco-jackets, and our equity crowdfunding campaign.
These mangroves will capture all the emissions from making and delivering our jackets, and go beyond by capturing 1,437 lbs (651.9 kg) of extra CO2, making your jackets carbon negative!
Your support has now allowed us to start our own Mangrove Reforestation project! It took place in Thousand Islands National Park–which sits 45 kilometers northwest of Indonesia’s most polluted city: Jakarta
At the end of July, we received the fabric tests report. We were overjoyed by the great result! Since our last update in July, we finished manufacturing the fabric as planned and our jacket’s factory has received the fabrics.
The first test is to determine the tear force using the ballistic pendulum method. There is no uniform standard to categorize strong to weak fabrics. However, the basic requirement based on China’s requirements for general garments is 7 Newton. The warp tear strength of our fabric accounts for 8.9 Newton which equals 0.91 kilogram-force, while the weft tear strength accounts for 8.7 Newton or equals 0.89 kilogram-force. This ensures that the fabric is super resistant and durable.
The next test is permeability to air which measures how windproof the fabric is. The test result is 0mm/s which shows your eco-jacket will be a perfect windbreaker letting you stay warm in a chilling climate without catching a cold!
PANGEA uses 100% recycled fabric for your eco-jacket. Our supplier obtained the certification from Global Recycled Standard to provide you with the assurance that products are processed more sustainably.
Manufacturing Update: new delay with zippers
All the details have been confirmed and finalized, the fabric is ready, and all the accessories have been purchased. There is, unfortunately, a new delay because the zippers supplier informed us that they have many back-orders accumulated and the waterproof zippers will be delayed by one more month compared to the plan. We are pushing the factory to accelerate production as much as possible, and trying to find other alternatives. With this news, the updated timeline is as follows:
The new estimated completion date is November 13. We sincerely apologize for all the delays that have been caused. All efforts are being made by our team to deliver an amazing jacket as soon as possible.
Trash, Trash, Trash!
Since our last update on July 7, our hard-working river heroes have collected 3,269 lbs (1,483 kg) of trash from our river barriers in Padang, Indonesia. Due to heavy storms, several river barriers were not operating because they broke. We are in the process of repairing them.
Here are some photos with the best catches of the month!
Our river heroes are working tirelessly to keep the rivers clean from trash. On July 24, Barrier #15 (left picture) stopped 126.5 lbs (57.5 kg) of trash. And, on July 16, Barrier #8 (right picture), our river heroes collected 102.5 lbs (46.5 kg) of trash. 8.6% of the total trash we recovered can be recycled and is going back into the industry to be reused and to prevent the creation of new plastic.
You can look at the barriers’ performance on our live dashboard here!
Guinness Record-Breaking Product Survey Results
In the last update, we invited you to fill out a survey to choose a product made for our Guinness World Record attempt. Here are the results!
The most popular option is a backpack, then a dry box came in second, followed by sunglasses in third. We researched the production complexity and cost, materials feasibility, trends, etc, and concluded that sunglasses are the best option for this project and we have started the development! We will keep you updated soon. We will also launch the other products you chose directly on our website.
All of this is only possible with your massive support of our mission! Let’s keep creating a better future for our planet where fish can roam in healthy, plastic-free oceans!
With love,
The PANGEA Team

Dear Pangeans,
The month has started with a lot of excitement in the PANGEA House of Creativity! Not only because the jacket production is starting, but also because of the impact project that is coming soon. Let us update you with all the excitement!
Guinness Record-Breaking Products
Have we mentioned that we are making an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest mangrove cleanup ever organized? We had a very eye-opening trip to Java, Indonesia, and got to see firsthand the effect of marine debris killing the mangrove ecosystem. We went with two university teachers of ocean science who explained to us the urgent importance of cleaning up the plastic that is choking these mangroves.
We plan to launch a Kickstarter campaign and create a new unique product made from the plastic recovered from the mangroves, to save the mangroves and fund the project! This would add a ton of value to the trash and trigger a circular economy model to keep the mangroves clean.
So we are giving YOU the opportunity to choosewhat outdoor product you’d like us to make from the plastics recovered from the cleanup.
Click here » to watch the project video and fill up the survey to save the mangroves together!
Carbon Offset Survey Results
In the last update, we invited you to fill out a survey to choose the carbon offset project for this campaign. After analyzing the result, we discovered that mangrove forests can absorb 22,000 times more CO2 per USD than corals, and for that reason, we chose the second most voted option which is planting mangrove trees.
We are going to plant mangrove trees in July in Seribu Islands National Park which is located north northwest of Jakarta, Indonesia. A portion of the island chain is dedicated to a national park.
Since our last update in June, we finished manufacturing the fabric as planned and our jacket’s factory has received the fabrics.
We also received the final jacket sample and cleared all the details in the tech pack with the factory. They are finally ready to start producing the jackets this week!
How does the updated timeline look now?
We are aiming at finalizing the jackets approximately by August 26. We are doing everything we can to finish production according to our new timeline, to deliver great jackets as soon as possible. We truly apologize for all the delays that were caused mainly by the COVID restrictions in China.
River barriers collecting trash!
Since our last update on June 15, our river heroes have collected 4,371 lbs (1,983 kg) of trash extra until today from our river barriers in Padang, Indonesia.
On June 19, Barrier #8 (right picture), stopped 118.6 lbs (53.8 kg) of trash. And, on June 22, Barrier #12 (left picture), our hard-working river heroes collected 109.5 lbs (49.7 kg) of trash. 11% of the total trash is recyclables that are going back into the industry to be reused and to prevent the creation of new plastic.
You can have a look at the barriers’ performance on our live dashboard here!
World Ocean Month: Underwater cleanup and coral restoration
On July 4, we did our very first underwater cleanup and coral restoration in collaboration with Aquamarine Diving - Bali. Eight divers joined the cleanup and collectively collected 10 kg of trash that mainly consists of single-use plastic and fishing lines. Each buddy team–consisting of 2 divers–is allowed to only carry a maximum of 8.8 lbs (4 kg) of trash so as to not jeopardize divers’ safety.
All of this is only possible with your huge support of our mission! Let’s keep creating a better future for our planet where fish can roam in healthy, plastic-free oceans!
With love,
The PANGEA Team

Dear Pangeans,
The sun is shining brightly upon us here in our PANGEA HQ in Bali as we bear shining news for you! The recycled, waterproof fabric is almost done, and we’re more than excited to see the jackets coming closer to life.
Carbon Offset Survey
As we advance with the jacket production, we are moving forward to offsetting the carbon we will emit throughout the production and shipping.
Please choose which project you prefer! The most voted option will be shared in the next update along with information about the project and how your jackets will capture more CO2 than they emit.
To be carbon-negative, we are going to calculate the amount of carbon we produce (from the jacket production process until you receive your jacket) and go beyond by capturing an extra 47,693.4 lbs (21,632 kg) of CO2 in order to regenerate our planet with each purchase.
Manufacturing Update
Since our last update, we have analyzed 5 different samples of fabrics and chosen the best one. The fabric is already under production and it is expected to finish in the 3rd week of June!
The rigorous COVID lockdowns in China have been delaying the final jacket sample production, but as things start to ease again the new supplier is finally about to send us the last sample. They promised they will send it at the end of the week. Stay tuned!
How does the updated timeline look now?
In the current timeline, we are aiming at finalizing the jackets approximately by August 16. We apologize for the delays the COVID restrictions have caused. We are doing everything we can to produce exceptional jackets for you as fast as the world allows.
More and more trash is collected from the river barriers!
Our spirited river heroes managed to pick up 10,029 lbs (4,549 kg) of trash last month from our river barriers in Padang, Indonesia. Since the campaign ended on December 15, 2021, the Pangea River Barriers have prevented a total of 63,237 lbs (28,684 kg) of trash from entering our oceans! We have gone beyond our commitment to remove 47,692 lbs (21,632 kg) of trash and your purchase has made this possible!
On May 17, our Barrier #2 (right picture), stopped 158 lbs (71.8 kg) of trash. And, on May 25, at Barrier #15 (left picture), our hard-working river heroes collected 144.8 lbs (65.7 kg) of trash and 20% are recyclables that are going back into the industry to be reused and prevent the creation of new plastic.
You can have a look at the barriers' performance on our live dashboard here!
All of this is only possible with your huge support of our mission! Let’s keep creating a better future for our planet where fish can roam in plastic-free oceans!

Dear Pangeans,
Thank you very much, amazing backers, for patiently waiting until we can get the Eco Jacket your way! We’ve got all the small details and accessories ready with the new supplier, and we can’t wait for the jacket to get into the production stage.
Manufacturing Update
The new supplier is still working on the second sample and promised to finish it this week and send it to us. We hope this to be the final one.
Last week the new supplier also informed us that they cannot produce the jackets in 3 colors for just 1,000 units with their fabrics supplier. So we searched for other fabric suppliers that can make the high-performance 100% recycled fabric for us in the 3 colors and for the quantity we need. The good news is that we found 5 suppliers already and we have ordered their samples this week.
We are only looking for fabrics that are certified recycled and we will also conduct third-party social and environmental audits on the whole supply chain.
So what are the next steps?
In the current timeline, we are aiming at finalizing the jackets around the 18th of July. We are sorry for the delays that the last COVID outbreak has caused in China. We are doing everything we can to produce awesome jackets for you as fast as possible.
We did it! 47,000 lbs of trash prevented from entering our oceans.
As we raised US$119,233.41 on Kickstarter and Indiegogo, our commitment was to clean (at least) 47,692 lbs (21,632 kg) of trash from the planet.
To date, our River Heroes have collected 9,409 lbs (4,268 kg) of trash this month. It means that, together, we have prevented a total of 53,208 lbs (24,135 kg) of trash from entering our oceans with the PANGEA River Barriers and collected 346 lbs (157 kg) from our shore since the campaign finished on 15 December 2021.
Your purchase has made this possible! Every day, our River Heroes in Padang, Indonesia clean every bit of trash captured by our barriers. This creates jobs to support the local community and boosts the recycled plastics economy. Check out a snippet from Barrier 6 and Barrier 8 below! On April 2nd, the PANGEA River Heroes collected 207.7 lbs (94.2 kg) from Barrier of trash from Barrier 6, and 8 161.3 lbs (73.2 kg) of trash from Barrier 8 on April 3rd.
You can have a look at the barriers' live dashboard here to find out how the barriers are performing!
Massive THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS for getting us closer to plastic-free oceans! We can only do this TOGETHER! If not us, then who? If not now, then when?
